The President is elected for four years, every leap year (with a February 29th). No more than two full terms are allowed (maximum 8 years of office).

The Supreme Court consists of the Chief Justice of the United States and such number of Associate Justices as may be fixed by Congress. The number of Associate Justices is currently fixed at eight.

They are nominated by the President for life but must be approved by the Senate.

A decision of the Supreme Court cannot be appealed to any other court and only the President can change their decision.

In addition to the Supreme Court Congress has established other federal courts.

America has two major political parties.

The Democrates are tought of as associated with labor and the Republicans with business and industry.

Republicans are in favor of limiting the roles of the federal government and social welfare, in favor of a strong army.

Democrates are in favor of some intervention of the federal government, of helping the minorities.

Two kinds of elections are held regularly : primaries and general elections.

A primary election is held before the national election to select candidates from each party who will run for office in the general election.

Then, the general election lets the voters decide which candidates they want to elect for their leaders.
